Trump issues ‘final warning’, Hamas says ready to negotiate
On September 7, Hamas announced that they were ready to “sit at the negotiating table immediately” after so-called ideas from Washington as well as after US President Donald Trump issued a “final warning” to Hamas about accepting the deal to release hostages in the Gaza Strip, according to AFP news agency.
“Hamas welcomes any initiative that supports efforts to end the attacks against our people and we affirm our readiness to immediately sit down at the negotiating table to discuss the release of all prisoners,” Hamas said.
In return, Hamas wants “a clear declaration of an end to the war, a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian committee to govern the Gaza Strip, which will begin its work immediately.”
Earlier in the day, Trump tweeted: “The Israelis have accepted the terms I proposed. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. I have warned Hamas of the consequences of not accepting. This is my final warning.”
Hamas said it had received a number of ideas from the US through mediators to reach a ceasefire in Gaza. They said they were in discussions with intermediaries about how to develop those ideas, but did not provide specifics.
