As reported by The Sun, David Gorton recently opted to renovate his Old Cottage pub located in the southern English seaside town of Margate, in order to keep his business running. The pub, which is actually an old house dating back to 1650, holds significant historical value for the local community, as evidenced by its Grade II conservation rating.
Derelict pub bought by David
During the renovation of the shop, a rare find from the 17th century was discovered by David, who was cleaning the store with a vacuum cleaner. He heard a small metallic sound and upon investigation, found an ancient coin featuring the image of the famous politician Oliver Cromwell, dated 1658. This was an exciting and unexpected discovery for David.
A valuable rare coin was discovered by chance by a tavern owner. The person who found it believes that it could be an object that was dropped over three centuries ago. Currently, this coin is valued at up to 12,500 pounds (which is equivalent to 354 million dong).
Additionally, David shared that there is a fireplace built in the 17th century inside the shop where the coin was found. He also found some stone cannons dating back to the 1600s.
David added, “We have not yet taken these items for inspection, but they are the oldest objects we have come across in our lives. It is likely that they are of significant value.”
While renovating the pub, David also discovered a fireplace with many artifacts dating back to the 17th century
