A Cat Escaping the Flames Finds Solace in the Vastness of the Open Skies, Embarking on a Remarkable Journey.
They feared the worst for their cat, who had not been found since their home was evacuated due to forest fires. What they didn’t know was that the feline had found a place where he was well taken care of.
Peyote , Yote for short, is a full member of the family of Kaitlyn White-Keyes , who lives in Yellowknife , Canada. Other cats who live under the same roof also enjoy the same status.
When Yote disappeared last August, his owners immediately began looking for him, but he remained nowhere to be found and their anxiety grew worse day by day.
They were on vacation at the time and had hired a pet sitter to watch over the felines. Upon learning that an evacuation order had been issued by authorities because wildfires were progressing in the area, they called her to ask her to open the windows of the house so the cats could escape.
Kaitlyn White-Keyes had no news of the twink, who was in fact safe. Yote had actually found refuge a little further away under the hangars housing the planes of a local family airline, Buffalo Airways .
The cat ate his fill there, was protected from the elements and loved by everyone, including the dogs. His presence was all the more appreciated as he kept the rodents at bay. We gave him a name, Claude . No one knew he already had one, as well as a family.
Yote got into the habit of napping on board planes during maintenance or on desks. ” It’s cat heaven here ,” Mikey McBryan , the company’s general manager, told the CBC .
The reunion, 2 months later
Meanwhile, Kaitlyn White-Keyes explained to her son Tomek , 5, that Yote probably won’t come home again. The child replied that his wish for Christmas was to see his feline friend again. He was granted well before his time.
2 months after her disappearance, the appeals launched on social networks by Kaitlyn White-Keyes and Mikey McBryan ended up intersecting. They got in touch, and the mother was relieved to have confirmation that the “Claude” her interlocutor was talking about was indeed her Yote .
The cat has returned home. Tomek was over the moon at the reunion. Mikey McBryan had a little pang in his heart when he saw the animal leave, but he was delighted with this outcome. “ It takes a lot of skill to be a good shed cat,” he says, “but it’s the cats that kind of find you.” The door is always open and who knows which cat will come in tomorrow .”
