New homes please! Dogs need tennis partners by Wimbledon🎾

March 19, 2024 by Pham Hien

As tennis fever grips Britain with the arrival of the Wimbledon tournament, Dogs Trust hopes some of its ball-mad dogs will have a new sofa to watch the action from.

First to serve is four-year-old Border Collie Oscar, who has been searching for his perfect match since November last year.

Rehoming Centre Manager, Dawn Bishop, says, “Oscar’s favourite thing in life is playing fetch! Like most Collies, he loves to be on the go and that’s especially the case for Oscar if there’s the chance of a game involving tennis balls. He is really intelligent, loves a challenge and enjoys training – so he has everything he needs to be a champion canine companion.

“Just like all the world’s great champions, Oscar and his owners, with our help, will need to keep on with his training so he can become the best he can be. We know with the right support he will be an absolute star and now we just want that special someone to fall in love with him.”

Poppy, who currently lives at Dogs Trust’s Leeds branch, has gone one step further – and used her love of the game to predict Wimbledon’s winner…

Dogs Trust Leeds Rehoming Centre Manager, Amanda Sands, says, “Most of us go a bit tennis crazy when Wimbledon comes around, but Poppy isn’t a fleeting fan! She loves playing with tennis balls and when faced with the challenge of picking this year’s Wimbledon Champion, she was certain it was going to be Andy Murray!”

Poppy is an eight-month-old crossbreed and would love to celebrate a Murray win with new owners in a few weeks time – but a lovely safe home would be the greatest prize of all.
