WEST DES MOINES, IOWA – Police are saying they needed to pry open a car door to rescue a dog and cat who were left in a sweltering car in West Des Moines as temperatures seared up into the 90s.
Des Moines television station KCCI reported that witnesses called police once it was realized that the animals in the car around 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Responding officers say the temperature inside the car itself was a whopping 125 degrees.
Police arrested a 49-year-old woman and she was formally charged her with two counts of animal neglect.
Police say the woman was soon released from jail after she posted bail and still has custody of the animals.
There is no word on a court date for the accused.
