Britney was married to Sam for only 14 months. The two called it quits in July 2023 as Sam filed for divorce. They reached a divorce settlement in May 2024, keeping the terms of their prenuptial agreement, according to TMZ.
“The divorce was amicable and the prenup was not challenged,” a source told People. “Britney is continuing to flex her freedom and is moving on. The report that she is in financial distress is false and she is not on any lease for him.”
Shortly after filing for divorce, Sam went to social media to share the news of their breakup, writing: “After six years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always,” he added in the final update on his Instagram Story.
An insider previously expressed to People at the time that Britney remained “in great spirits despite everything going on”, with the source saying: “Obviously it’s never an easy thing to go through, but shes remaining positive and focusing on the future.” Sam’s filing cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce, splitting on July 28, 2023.
Britney and Sam began dating back in 2016 after meeting on the set of Britney’s music video for her track Slumber Party. After five years, Sam proposed in September 2021 and they tied the knot on June 4, 2022, in a glitzy ceremony in Los Angeles, joined by A-list friends.
Although they ended, Sam still spoke highly of Britney in a post-split interview, explaining: “It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on.”
